Letter from the Leadership Team

Esteemed delegates, guests, and MUN directors.

On behalf of the SPIMUN team, it is with immense pride that we welcome you to St. Peter's International Model United Nations 2024! SPIMUN's journey began three years ago, when our former secretary generals, Clarissa and Sérgio, designed a conference aimed at promoting creativity and innovation while respecting MUN tradition. At SPIMUN, we seek to offer a different perspective on MUN through our several committees, such as the Press Corps, Junior, and Senior committees. These committees serve to create an environment where students can grow out of their comfort zones and develop their communication and critical thinking skills, while also developing an interest in global relations. Ultimately, MUN serves to allow young students to voice their opinions and debate their concerns regarding our globalized world while being exposed to the perspectives of different countries.

Setting up such a conference, tailored to your specific needs, requires only the best of what St. Peter's has to offer. Indeed, the SPIMUN team has been handpicked to ensure that this experience is like no other, with each member having a specific role in how to make this conference enjoyable, interesting, and a place to make meaningful connections through the MUN lens.

Our team is divided into three sectors, Marketing, Logistics, and Leadership.

In marketing, we have Diana (Head) and Joana (Vice-Head). Together, they work tirelessly to bring you all the information you need for SPIMUN. Furthermore, they are responsible for giving you a sneak peek of the laughs, smiles, and experiences you will have during the conference, through our social media platforms, including our innovative Instagram page, @SPIMUN.CONFERENCE, and website, which you can find using this link.

In logistics, we have Mafalda (Head), and James (Vice-head). Together, they are responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the conference. They will be the ones responsible for the food, merchandise, and overall operations management.

In the leadership, we have an experienced team familiar with the culture of the SPIMUN conference, responsible for all communication between schools and the organization of the overall conference, and eager to make this the experience of a lifetime. Our Deputy Secretary Generals, Soraya and Mafalda, have been members of the St. Peter's MUN community since 9th grade, and have chaired and participated in previous SPIMUN conferences making them the best individuals to organize and improve an already amazing conference.

Finally, our last member is the Secretary-General, me, Gonçalo Sousa. I'm in charge of ensuring everybody is on track regarding their tasks and helping them in any way that I can. I am also in charge of most of the communication between schools and ensuring that the SPIMUN conference is  a fun environment that breathes our motto "LIVE INNOVATION." My story with MUN began in the 7th grade in a different country, since then, MUN has taken me to different places and conferences and has helped me develop research skills, make meaningful connections with friends worldwide, and attain a better understanding of global affairs. That is why I joined SPIMUN, as I aim to share the same experience MUN gave me with others.

After last year's success, I am certain that SPIMUN will be the conference for you, not only because of the opportunity to further delve into the world of debate but also to enjoy meeting new students from different schools. Additionally, we have the perfect team dedicated to make this the best SPIMUN edition yet and the best opportunity for you delegates to develop your career in MUN.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at goncalo.sousa.4405@edu.stpeters.pt.

I look forward to seeing you all in March.
