Bibliography Note
The Security Council is a committee of the UN and focuses primarily in maintaining international peace and security. It has 15 members each with one vote, however 5 of these members are permanent, the United States of America, People’s Republic of China, the French Republic, the United Kingdom and the Russian Federation and they hold VETO power over any clause or resolution. All decisions made within the council must be obeyed and followed by all Member States. The Council focuses on determining a threat or an act of aggression by settling disputes and adjustments in a peaceful manner, however it may also resort to imposing sanctions or authorizing the use of force in extreme cases. Delegates in the Council will be assigned a country position and are expected to engage in a meaningful debate that results in pro-active solutions.
